Title: Hood hinge
Post by: Geoff on September 01, 2011, 11:22:49 PM
Hope someone can help me.  I am in need of a left side hood hinge for the Caribou, mine is not rebuildable.  I had one located through Willington Cadillac but the fellow Willington was getting it from sold it to someone else even after Willington paid him for it on my behalf.  Probably got more money for it.  Have found some on eBay but quite expensive, will go that route if I absolutely have to.
Only need the left side but will take both if being sold only as a pair.  In need of rebuild is OK.
'73-'74 hinges are the same in the parts book (both Eldo and RWD cars) and my rebuilder tells me hinges from '71 to '74 will work.
Thanks very much.

What's wrong with the ones you have? Are they totally worn out? Or just 'sprung'? I remember reading on the MoBo, I think it was that A/C guy. His name escapes me right now. But he had a method for re-springing them. I'm sure if you put in a search it would come up.

The right one is OK and can be rebuilt.  The left one someone tried to "fix" with a welding torch (or MIG), and ruined it.  You are probably thinking of Greg Surfas --- he recommended SMS in New Hampshire to me for the rebuild and for another hinge but SMS is who I am doing business with already and they do not have a spare hinge for me either, although they are looking.

Ueahg, doesn't Keeper's buddy have a gross of the correct "hinge" cars for parts, right in the Sunshine State too?  :scratchhead:

Have you called Trenton Brown down in Texas?  I bought all my '69 disc brake stuff from him.  Nice guy.  He's on the vendors list.
