Title: 1964 Trumpet Horn for sale.
Post by: 62 driver on September 30, 2013, 11:41:51 PM
This is a real 1964 (only year) Eldorado Trumpet Horn for sale.  It is stamped with the part # 896 12V. It is in very nice condition with no dents. It has it original mounting brackets. The one on the end and the one clamp it the middle. It works like it should. You will not find another one for sale unless someone is parting a 1964 Eldorado that has one, which is not likely. They made repop right hand mirror but never repoped the Trumpet Horn. Price for that $50,000 car that is missing the horn! $550. + shipping. Email at nogas2day@gmail.com

More on the eldo horns. The 1961-63 Eldorado horn is a B-Flat (199 9947). The 1964 eldorado horn is a low C note (199 9896). This is the horn that is over 2 feet long and only used on the Eldo conv. The other projector horn, which is about one foot long was sold as the Eldorado horn, for all the other 1964 Cadillacs it  used a high C note (199 9889). Late in the 1964 model year. A kit came out to install the long horn on other models (990 301) I believe this was late in 1964. It went in front of the radiator so any service department could have done so by ordering the parts anyway. The 61-63 horn long horn is a little longer than the 64 model ,in the late 60's the 64 model was the replacement for 61-64, but not for the 57-60 's ,The horn that replaced them was the shorter version.
As far as interchange to other GM 's, I don't have that information. Warren

I don't care what you drive. To pay that kind of money for a horn is the definition of 'too much money'.

I have a couple of Eldo trumpet horns in my (not for sale) stash.  Guess I'll use Warren's number list to try and ID just what years they are for.  Eldo horns were optional on other Cadillac models from the factory or dealer installed although maybe not the particular Eldo convert horn that 62driver has.

Incest is a big thing if you search the web. If you want to see it up close, Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi is a good place to start. But I think that you'll find West Virginia to be leading the way in inbreeding.

Without re-reading through the thread, is the 896 the one you need for your car & your son's?

No it's not for the 61-63. It is for a 64 Cadillac. Not at home but the 61-63 are about 19" long and the 1964 horn is 22" long. I have one 61-63 horn for myself and Matt is running a Buick I think. Then I just pick up this 64 horn. I bought not knowing the part number. A crap shoot.

Fins I been working on restoring a set of Kelsey Hayes 40 spoke wire wheel. I am pulling out my hair! O I have no hair left.  :)

Oh, I know. I read every thread, just in case it needs a smart assed comment added to it.  ::) You have more patience than I'll ever have doing wheels like that. I'd rather slap on a set of wheel covers and call it a day.

I've never seen a modern day set of real wires that I liked. For some dumb reason, I always thought that the factory Cadillace wire covers looked good on select cars.

Fins, I agree! It would be cheaper to buy a new set of 48 spokes. I have now tore my interior out to refresh it with carpet and paint plus a good cleaning. It started on a Sunday afternoon to grease/fix the back windows the had not been used for 40+ years.  Next thing you know the whole inside need work.

That's how mine got started. A giant snowball effect. I could have just dyed the seats light blue/gray and put them in. But noooooooo. I had to go tearing the whole car apart. But you know what. It looks good now and I'm fairly happy with the results.

I came across many very questionable wire connections, places where the casing was getting rubbed raw, dried out window tracks, no vapor barrier in the door panels and on and on.

The FatMat insulation was really worth the effort in both insulation qualities and sound deadening. Plus if brought out sounds from my sound system that I never heard before. The bass is deep and rich, not rattly and full of vibration. The highs and mid-ranges, ever to a deaf guy are nice and crisp.
