When I was working in Cali I had seen one of these & I have to say the work that done was top notch & very well put together in every way. I like the look of these eldo's a lot better then some of the other "custom jobs" that are out there. Having said that, it could be worse....it could be this!!

So if the seller drops reverse does that lock the high bidder in?  
Or would the bidder now have to "accept" the lowered reserve, on a bid previously declined as too low?

I mean what buyer wants to get "pumped" bidding against the house, to then have the house back up when there are no competitive bids?  That's not an auction.

Yes, if the reserve is dropped, then the high bidder would have to accept the lower reserve to be considered the buyer if that makes sense.

Since the bidder didn't know the reserve when they bid, changes to a lower reserve should not matter to them.

The bidder already accepted the price by making the bid.


Only issue I see is if a seller raising a reserve after someone beat it, and that's not allowed.

That makes sense and would be fair. If the reserve drops after the bid is first not accepted, then the bid should becomes a negotiable offer,  rather than a commitment to buy.

Since the bidder didn't know the reserve when they bid, changes to a lower reserve should not matter to them.

But see how that isn't fair to the bidder, to be commited for days without the seller (consignor) also being commited?

Now the bidder is tied up for days on a "maybe" and could be  passing on other Gutitomobiles because the bidder doesn't want to end up with two of 'em. With these terms, the Guido's owner can esentially use the high-bidder's own commitment with a good-faith bid against the bidder himself, to try to "knock off" the  bidder, with no downside risk to the consignor/seller.

At many sales, if a bid is taken contingent on the seller's acceptance later, then the bid converts to a negotiation status, which either bidder or seller can pass on; although the high bidder has an option to accept at the stated reserve price. That's more fair, because a greedy -for lack of a better term- consignor has to take some some risk by  insisting on a higher price than open competitive bidding would generate. Also the bidder is freed to move on and try to buy other items, without fear of later being "stuck" with more than she wants.
