They don't say when the create engine was manufactured.  I wonder how long it's sat.

Geoff

It is for a '74 Eldo from the part number.  But you're right, it doesn't give a manufacture date.

I'd have to open a 40 year old mill that's never been oiled up. That thing is got to be rusted internally.

I agree Fins.  If it sat in your garage or mine the humidity would cause surface rust.  But in California??  I don't know.  :sunny:
I'd still pull the heads to look at the cylinder walls just to make sure.

Fins

Just rolling it over will score the bores and the bearings. Kali or not. Disassemble it first then lightly hone the bores, maybe just have to wipe the bearing with oil. But the cam bearing are dry, the lifters, timing chain is probably locked up.

Good core candidate though.

Just hook up 2 big batteries in series, and let her rip. The oil will get there soon enough.

Do that and you're assured of a full rebuild.  ::)

... once an oil pump is procured and installed.

Something smells here.

Water outlet and casting at missing welch plug seem to show heavy rust.  :confused2:

Looks like an intake's been installed and removed.  :scratchhead:

Lotta bolt holes have the been-installed look.  :chin:

To me, you're advocating just hooking up a pair of batteries and trying to fire it up. My response was that you'll toast the engine. Then you come back about a starter.

Someone want to help me out here? Am I that dense that I can't find a joke somewhere in all of this?
If there is one, then I sure don't see it.  :chin:
